Women with fine hair want hairstyles that give them a fuller look. Volumizing products can help plump fine, limp hair, but a fine hair styles need some careful cutting and styling techniques to really get some fullness.
Fortunately, women with fine hair have several options when it comes to finding the styles that will make their hair look its best.
Keep it Short
Fine hair works well with shorter cuts that don't weigh it down. A shorter cut gives fine hair added bounce and movement, which makes it appear more full.
Add Some Waves
Hot rollers or a curling iron can be used to give fine hair some extra volume. Always use a styling product to protect hair from the added heat and add moisture as fine hair tends to be dry.
The Blunt Cut
Fine hair looks great in a blunt cut. Keep the ends the same length all around and only use layering around the frame of the face.
A Classic Bob
A bob cut works beautifully for fine hair. Bob cuts come in a variety of styles, even or graduated, curly or straight, with bangs or without. The short style gives fine hair more bounce and frequent cuttings keep the ends of hair from splitting.
Curly Hair
Hair that is both fine and curly can get some added bounce with the right cut. Some short layers around the crown will add lift and leaving the bulk of the hair in a blunt cut will keep it from looking too thin at the ends.
Long and Straight
Fine hair can be worn long and straight, but keeping it no more than an inch or two below the shoulders will add fullness. Long layers can add fullness as well, but be careful not to add too many layers or the bottom of the hair will appear too thin.
Tease It
For a fuller updo, tease fine hair with a comb before pulling it into place. Teasing is not the best option for everyday, but can add fullness to special occasion up-swept styles.
Fake It
Add a hair piece to give the look of fuller hair. Hair pieces are great for creating elegant evening updos for short or fine hair. Extensions can be added to give the length that is difficult for fine hair to achieve naturally.
Caring for Fine Hair
Fine hair is prone to dryness, but leave-in conditioners will only weigh it down making the hair appear limp and flat. Use a non-sulfate volumizing shampoo, which is less drying and rinse hair thoroughly. Volumizing products, such as mousse and gels, do wonders for thickening fine hair.
Choosing your Style
Talk to your stylist about the problems you've had with past cuts before you settle on a new style. Talk about what you hope to achieve with your new look, what products will be needed to maintain it, and how difficult it will be to style at home. Decide together on the look that will suit you and your fine hair.
