I have published three of my poems below - to meet word count requirement. Please consider individually.
The first poem below is about my grandmother who continues to be an inspiration to all who knew her. I hope a little of her grace is captured in this short poem.
Sometimes she danced a jig with me
In the living room
Or out in the yard
To music no one else could hear
Old and young at once
With white hair and pink pants
Her smile and shining eyes
Revealed the girl she was before
Her steps were unsteady
Yet dancing she remembered
Running through fields and swimming in creeks
And I could almost see her there
When I miss her I listen
Silent and still
Trying to recapture the music we imagined
Sometimes when we danced
New poem below - This one is for my mother. I love you mom.
If I could find that little girl from long ago
I would hold her hand and tell her
Someday a man will love you more than life
Even when you have forgotten
He will still remember the young girl inside and smile
Someday your tiny children will look at you and see
A guide and protector and when they are sick
Or sad or hurt or mad they will search only for you
Someday You will do God's work bringing healing
And comfort and peace to sick broken people
You will seem an angel to them with hope in your hands
Someday Your babies all grown up will defy and disappoint
Loved ones will pass on from this life and you will hide away
Dreaming awake of hurts and wrongs with walls all around
Someday New children will skin knees and lose teeth and
Hit home runs and sing happy birthday and win awards and
Draw pictures and go to school and grow up and miss you
If I could find that little girl from long ago
I would hold her hand and tell her
It's safe here . Come out.
New Poem below - anyone ever lay on the lawn watching cloud shapes go by?
Clouds
We saw ships gently floating
With no sea beneath
As silently jets glided by
Monsters with horns
And with tails and sharp teeth
All drifting around in the sky
Views of nature exquisite
Dreams joyful and tragic
Scenes both familiar and odd
Willows and mermaids
Inscribed there by magic
In the misty handwriting of God
I published these poems together in order to meet the word count requirement. Please consider each poem individually.
