Darth Maul would have dispensed with Darth Vader quite easily in my opinion.

After all, when one sees Darth Maul, one gets the sense that his death was the byproduct of being a character in a prequel.

Darth Maul was able to fight two Jedi at once, and the fact that Obi-Wan kills him just allows the prequel to lead into the story of the fall of Anakin Skywalker.

Darth Vader is a joke. Yes, he is an iconic villain, but I wish Lucas would have left his origins a mystery.

Darth Vader is an amputee on a respirator, a fallen soul and genocidal maniac.

All the mystery and venom of what he represented in the original trilogy was deflated in the prequels.

Granted, he had exceptional fighting skills, but he did not demonstrate an aptitude like that of Darth Maul.

Darth Maul was a deadly force, one that was wasted in just one movie.

Unfortunately, had the outcome been more realistic, the rest of the story could not proceed, as it is Obi-Wan who furthers Anakin's descent into the land of the amputees.

Darth Maul would have killed Obi-Wan also if he had been able to kill Qui Gon on Tattooine. Then he would have been able to fight Obi-Wan one on one, and killed him. Only because the Phantom Menace was a prequel, and Darth Maul had to die, was the reason his character could not evolve.

With barely any words spoken, and only being in one of the worse of the Star Wars movies, Darth Maul has managed to still be one of the most popular characters in the Stars Wars universe.

Had Darth Maul not been trapped in the prequel part of the Star Wars Universe, he would have went on to annihilate all Jedi and ruled the Universe with the might of the Sith. And if ever he had to cross lightsabers with Anakin Skywalker, he would have killed him.

Because this question as a hypothetical asks, who would win, Darth Maul or Darth Vader. But when Darth Vader first emerged, when he first became Darth Vader, there was no Darth Maul.

In all likelihood, if the story was to evolve, either the emperor would have been killed by Darth Maul and Anakin came over to the dark side then, setting up a future showdown between Master and Servant, or Anakin Skywalker would have fought an older Darth Maul as a Jedi Knight.

In this instance, I think Darth Maul would have killed Anakin Skywalker, not very easily, but he would have won the fight. Maybe if Anakin jumped him with Obi-Wan he might have a chance, but as a one on one fight I just do not see Darth Vader, who seemed a much better fighter in his Anakin form, beating an amazing, and unfortunately prequel maligned Darth Maul.
