respected on the road as well, especially if the entourage has both men and women in it. Walking in on the lead singer's girlfriend in the shower can be a tour ender. I've seen bands break up over less. Speaking of which, trying to get with somebody else's gf or bf while on tour is tantamount to band suicide. You might as well quit and save yourself the trouble.
Make sure that you have a good road manager or road person helping you out and keeping your itinerary together, it makes a huge difference. The less the band worries about day to day stuff and the more they concentrate on the show, the better.
One last thing... more bands have broken up and/or fallen apart over drugs and alcohol than any other influence. I'm not talking sobriety, I'm talking abuse. When somebody in the band or entourage is abusing themselves to the point of it affecting their performance, they should be given two options... stop it, or you're gone. It will drain everyone's energy and suck the life out of the band, so don't let it happen, no matter how much fun it is.
In closing, just like anything else in life, if you plan to fail, then simply fail to plan. The more you prepare for and the more organized you are, the better your tour will go and the more fun you'll have! Crowds can sense tension and they can sense when a band is clicking with each other. They feed off of your attitude, so if you are tired, strung out and/or stressed out, it shows and it will affect the mood of the audience every time.
