A small business has not only disadvantages over a big one, it also has some very good advantages.
1. You can have a much clearer vision of your business than a big one. This happens because it's much easier to manage a small business than a big one. Like they say "who that handles many horses always leave some behind". you can use this extra intelligence to make smarter moves than they do. They have so many numbers to take care of, so many things to think of and so many tasks that need immmediate handle that they just can't think it the right way somethimes. Take advantage of this issue.
2. You can hire cheaper workers. Since all people want to work in big businesses and big business always hire the best which are the most expensive ones, you can have the cheapest and least trained ones and train them your way to serve you the best. Don't take my word on this. See in employment websites how small business can have always the cheapest workers.
3. You should always have the best costumer relations. Since small business do not have the huge costumer list the huge businesses have you can always give them the best treatment and make special offers to each one as well as personalized discounts. As you can imagine the big ones cannot offer such service so this is the place and time to score!
4. A big business cannot always get the best suppliers because those suppliers do not have the quantities they need so you can go to the best suppliers which are usually the smallest ones. Sure they might not be the cheapest ones but sure they have the best people working there and they can offer you the most personalized deliveries too.
5. The next one is the way you can expand. It's much easier to grow and expand a small business than an already big one. By duplicating your business model you can duplicate your company easily without all that complicated modifications that big ones need to make. This is another great place to score.
6. Don't forget you can always change your business model very quickly if you need. Since your company is a small one you can change anything very quickly without much delay and without showing that you are in trouble. The big one cannot do that, because people would talk.
7. Finally it's time to open more smaller stores somewhere else in the town and put the big one out of business. Its takes less time and effort to run two smaller shops than one huge one.
