The biggest confidence killer

by Kevin Lamb

Our mental life-support hangs in the balance of our minds. Everyday we make hundreds of decisions based on just the thoughts in our minds. We're controlled by the mind; end of story. Our thoughts are the lifeblood of our every day's existence; yet they can also be very harmful to us when it comes to our self esteem and confidence. These negative thoughts which fly around in our minds are also very detrimental in just how we perceive ourselves.

The mental outlook of ourselves is based on what we or the "ego" tells us (in our mind). This ego which lies within us all gives us a feeling of self; but most thoughts which are filtered through the ego come out as negative thought patterns. These negative thought patterns are what the mind and the ego creates the best. But, these negative thoughts are just what lowers our confidence and self esteem drastically.

The ego creates thoughts of fear and doubt in the mind; fear of the unknown. The ego and the mind work together as a team feeding off each other until we're left holding an empty emotional bag. Every time we lose the mental game our confidence is lowered again; until at last we feel like an emotional midget; hidden deep within ourselves unwilling to venture out again for fear of failure.

Our mind is the most powerful muscle we obtain and it loves to be used. It's also a jealous muscle and needs to be used. Every minute of the day the mind flexes its muscle as it puts us through the wringer, and we listen intently at everything which is said a hundred times over. The mind constantly throws at us thoughts that we have to reason out and file away somewhere for future use. As we hold unto these thoughts they're randomly played back to us when a fitting occasion arises; when the ego and the mind decide.

The playback of these thoughts is what kills the confidence. Our mind is a super computer which excels in problem solving. But in order to "problem solve" there first must be a problem in the mind to solve; so a problem is created in the mind with a little help from the ego. These problem thoughts are what plaques and fills the mind; leaving us in a world of self doubt and worry. Our mind goes over and over each problem until we're left feeling totally inferior. Confidence has now left the mind; it's been mentally squeezed out.

With a felling of total inferiority confidence is left lying next to our self esteem at the bottom of the proverbial barrel. The conscious mind rationalizes that we're inferior even before we attempt
