What I used to be...

There was once a day when I was young
Where music played like a beating drum
Inside my head, filling my mind
When I saw the world as happy and kind

There once was a time when I saw only today
No far away years or time in the gray
The here and now' was all that mattered
And upon those hours my life was scattered

Not long ago, I was impulsive and free
Consequences were just illusion to me
I lived in the moment where time didn't care
Swirling and twirling, I floated on air

With age came a wisdom that time couldn't give
Revising my vision, teaching me to live
My body moved slower, my hair turning white
No longer impulsive, I learned wrong from right

Seasons and years and days passed so very fast
My superficial beauty turned kindly at last
I became someone's wife, and someone's mother
Became a safe harbor in moments of trouble

What I used to be has helped me 'become'
All of my dreams, rolled tightly into one
Finding my peace, following my heart
I'd do it again the same from the start

No regret and no dashed wishes
Pain gave me hope and hope, inspirations
I'm proud of my life, the joy and the pain
What I used to be, taught me no shame
