Are we a nation of people who hear sounds; bumpity-bumps in the night; the thoughts of our minds clamoring and clanging; searching for a fearful heart; one to be melted into terror and despair. Fretting about trivial things, which never come to pass; while the pleasantries of life drift slowly by, losing each battle to the goddess of paranoia. Hope smothered and promise buried deep; never to be realized; gone forever; a lost people.
Or do we look forward with optimism and determination to succeed. Fearing no shadow in the dark or tyrant abroad who wishes us harm. We are Americans, a people of perseverance, a nation with the intestinal fortitude to defy all odds; coming through the worst of tragedies to survive and go on; becoming stronger through adversity. Courage is not a physical state of being; courage is a mental state of mind even the weakest of bodies can possess.
That sets the mood for addressing this philosophical rhetoric about whether we should have a draft or not. Should our nation be required to enact a draft, for a legimate threat to our very existence as a nation, as it was at Pearl Harbor, it won't be an issue open for debate. It will be a matter of life and death. Stand and fight or sit and die. Until that actual circumstance exists, in reality, I don't believe anyone will know how he or she will react to an involuntary military draft.
Yet even faced with the threat of fatal peril there will be people who consider their reason(s) valid for not being a part of defending their freedom and liberty. There will always be sheep among us for the wolves to ravage; ironically partaking in and enjoying the rewards and blessings of those who realized freedom isn't free; some will have to die, to preserve our nation, for those who won't. As for meI want no man to do my beckoning and I gladly except the honor to defend, preserve, and die for what we've built; for myself, my family, and my fellow Americans.
Will or should we reinstate the draft? If the history of mankind holds true; there will be another draft because there will be another war. But as history also shows, we won't enact it until after disaster has struck once again. So much for preparedness.
So ease your mind. Concentrate on the good things and the happiness of life. Because in a time of emanate danger; a time of war; when another wants to destroy you or enslave you; to take all you have; there won't be many debating if we should have a draft. The line to join the fight will be wrapped around the block. We are Americans; we will answer the call.
People do things for two reasons only:
They have to
They want to
Scant few Want a draft or a war.
