Have you ever had trouble getting to sleep and took a sleeping pill to overcome the problem? Drug and alcohol dependant people say they use their addiction as a way to rest ad get the pleasant feeling. I can give you tips on how to do all of this without the bad trips and hangovers. What I shall tell you is basically an idea that has been taken from the Ancient Egyptian era. It's called self hypnosis sleep. The steps I shall give you might not work in an instant especially if you have strong characteristics of insomnia, but with time and a bit of patience, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do it.
Being hypnotized doesn't necessarily mean you have to be asleep or in a trance like state. Self hypnosis sleep in a skill that can be learnt and mastered.
Let's begin by setting the mood. You need to ensure that you will not be distracted and that you are lying in a comfortable position, you can achieve this by laying on your bed. If you can hear noises from outside of your room, then you can turn a CD on or just play some soft music. Ideally, it would be better to have white noise playing in the background. If you don't have a white noise generator, and let's face it, not all of us do, you can turn your radio to AM mode and change it so that it is in between two frequencies. This can stand as your white noise generator. Once set, you have the relaxation part sorted, now you need deepening, suggestion, application and termination and you will learn these slowly.
First of all, you need to put your body in to a state of relaxation. If you don't know, these steps are a good place to start: start at your toes and working up to your head, clench and relax your muscles. This basically enables you to relax every part of your body all over. After this has happened, you should breathe deeply, in for three beats via your nose, and out for three beats from your mouth. As long as it is a steady beat, it shouldn't matter how many counts, but this is just a basic guideline.
At this stage in self hypnosis sleep, you may find that you are already in a hypnotic stage but the likelihood is that you won't know it. Don't wait for it to happen, let it occur naturally, because as the saying goes, a watched kettle never boils! If you remember when you were a child, and to help you get to sleep your parents would tell you to count sheep? Well, the same process applies here in a roundabout sort of way. Sleep hypnosis, or self hypnosis as it is more commonly known, you don't use sheep, you use thoughts and suggestions. For example, you may want to think "I wish to lose weight healthily" or "I will take control of my life and get that promotion" The suggestions are all down to you and what you want to gain from your session of self hypnosis sleep.
The only way to prove that this actually works is to allow people to try it out for themselves, and that would be my advice to you. Research before you choose any course of action with regards to hypnotherapy, but by all means try it if that is what you really want!
