How to avoid anger at work

I don't feel the title is correctt given the reality ob being human. Is it really possible to avoid angry with difficult coworkers, demanding bosses and unfair customers. Having worked for three major corporations, the answer is no. Here's the alternative: how do we manage the anger we are feeling and as a result avoid burning the bridges that could greatly hurt our career?

Here are three suggestions for your consideration:

1) Acknowledge the emotion- Awareness of the anger is a prerequisite for acceptance of our human feeling that precedes the positive action we must engage in.

2) Reflect and don't react- I wish I had a dollar for every time I immediatley reacted with anger to a coworker or customer. Knee jerk will not help our relationships. Let's look at the makeup of anger by reversing the situation. What happens if we approach an angry coworkers and present our case with calmness? Answer: Although our behavior is positive and reasonable we will still be unsuccessful We cannot use reason for success against emotion. The idea of reflectionworks well whether we are reacting angrily in writing or verbally. In fact, please avoid the mistake of ever expressing in writing. The knee jerk reaction further alienates and separates. In addition to the anger, what you mean may be totally perceived ddifferently by the reader. Thought: Perception is reality. When we reflect and not react, we allow for the dissipation of the anger and conversely begin to look more objectively at the problem and the source of our anger. After we have reflected and given it at least a night to digest the issue, then we can react now to this person as a stranger . Why? How can we be angry at a person we just meeting?

3) Develop a humor journey- This is comprised of stories and jokes that make you laugh at loud or at least produces a smile. In my book Pearls Of Wisdom For Success In the Workplace, I offer a suggestions that states: Anger and good natured humor cannot coexist.

The above suggestion are overall strategies. Here are three techniques ( anger busters) that can be used to relief of us from shouting, fuming and other actions which demonstrated a loss of emotional: 1) Take deep breaths for one minute. Anger produces stress that results in shallow breathing. 2) Walk away from the person and environment causing the anger to begin dissipating. If possible, take a short walk or outside and observe nature.

Hopefully, there is one strategy or technique that will manage the emotion of destruction...anger
