When the evenings of forever
Started fleeting
Going fast
In the distance
Behind closed eyes
I could still see you
Standing with your back to me
Unaware
I tried hard to memorize the moment
Knowing it would be important
Without fully grasping why.
I watched you walk away from me
Not realizing you would not look back
Not knowing I had seen your face for the last time
I tell myself now
If I had known, I would have done things differently...
How brilliantly I lie
Even I believe me.
And now
All these long days later
The warm winds of summer
Become that days wind
Blowing you back to me
Time has softened the sharp edges of my memory
I no longer remember the feel of your hand in mine
Only recalling that you held it
I cannot remember the scent of your hair, freshly washed
Only that I loved it
I am not made of the kind of metal
That would allow me to sleep at night
Without memories of you
My yesterdays unravel before me
Brightly polishing my mistakes
Until the glare hurts my eyes
Powerless to change what I've done
Alone in the darkness
Between the shadow and the soul
I put my love for you away once again.

That day you went to the hospital, I didn't think that would be the time for you to go. You were the person in my life that
IF I COULD SEE YOU AGAIN
I thought that if we ever were to cross one another's path.
That you'd recall the happy times and
My darling son Tyler
how I miss your face
I can still here your voice
echoing through space
deep inside my mind
you're still
