Short stories: Girls night out

by Christy Murray

Created on: January 04, 2009

I'm driving home half buzzed on Whiskey Sours. It's 11:02pm. My phone rings. I look at it. It's my friend, Connie. I answer it. "Hello?"

"Do you believe the nerve of that girl? What the hell is wrong with her? I told her I didn't want her mentioning Matthew!" she screams.

"Connie, you know that Amy is going to talk about him, I mean, he is her man," I reply.

"But this was supposed to be a girls night out, not girls night out and talking about Matthew! I'm getting tired of this shit!"

"Okay, Connie. How about I talk to you when I get home okay?"

"Alright girl, later."

I hang up the phone. It doesn't make any sense to me why our nights always end up like this. We start having fun in the beginning, and in the end everyone goes home mad.

Connie and Amy have been my friends for 6 years. We all work at the same place. Every payday for the past 4 months we try to go out somewhere and get some drinks. Sometimes it is the three of us, sometimes it's with other coworkers.

Connie is the realist. She's a good person, but cross her, and you will feel her wrath. Amy on the other hand is very laid back. But I will say that she is stuck to her man of 10 years, Matthew. This is why we started up this girl's night out, so Amy could get away from him.

Now, how does Matthew feel about this? He hates it. You see, Amy is a beautiful girl, 5'10", slender build, long brown hair. He is the most jealous man alive. So when we go out, he texts her every 5 minutes or calls her. Connie can't stand this, and eventually this leads into an argument between the two ladies, and everyone goes home. I usually stay out of it, I like to stay away from the drama.

Well, this is what happened on this particular night. We just so happened to meet up with a group of people at a local bar. There were about 10 of us in all. Everyone was having a great time, drinking and eating. I just so happened to mingle with a guy at the bar. He was a police officer, and I really liked his style.

But enough about me, for now. So, Amy had brought her friend, Angie along. Angie was cool, she just didn't know how to hold her liquor down. Amy had her cellphone on the table, just to show everyone that Matthew was not going to call her tonight.

Oh so she thought. Angie was about to pass out, so Amy pulled her away to the bathroom. In doing so, she forgot her cellphone. So everyone was laughing and everything, and all of a sudden Amy's phone goes off. Everyone looked around like, "what are we going to do?"
