Poetry: The future

by Austin Moore

Created on: January 04, 2009

As I begin the journey down the street,
My mind starts to wonder what it really seeks.
Dreams, newly forged, travel in tow,
As well as the ones from long, long ago.

I stare at the stars and contemplate life,
Full of happiness, hopes, and strife.
Who am I to be all those 80-odd years?
Not knowing is one of my deepest fears.

My thoughts from my youth, indeed they have changed,
An astronaut, a novelist, the future was far-ranged,
But now that my mind is drawing a blank,
The steps into the future are harder to take.
