Diversity in the work place, but what does it mean? It means that diversity can be very beneficial in a company for a variety of reasons. This diversity ranges from sex, to ethnic, and even those with disabilities. The more diverse a company is however the more educated managers and others in upper management need to be. It's important to make sure the company has incorporated rules and regulations into the company handbook regarding individual groups. Communication is another important issue when a company has a diverse group of employees.
When a company has a diverse group of individuals working for them it allows them to produce goods and services which are beneficial to multiple groups of individuals. Having a diverse group of employees also allows a company to send appropriate individuals to meet with upper management of other companies. These may include those who share a common language or cultural background. A company with a diverse work place can utilize that work force to become a better company.
Among the diversity are not only the previously mentioned groups, but also the variety of ages and martial backgrounds. Many baby boomers will continue in the work force due to the inability to fully retire. These baby boomers have a wealth of information to share with those just entering a profession. They also have skills which some individuals have not acquired and may be beneficial to a company. Those just entering a profession however are entering during an age of computers and have a wealth of information to share with those who are not computer literate. Those from different backgrounds, ethnic or cultural can be valuable to a company which does business internationally or even in the United States where many businesses are diverse. It is important to be able to send representatives from one company to another and be able to conduct business in a way in which the other individual can relate. This will aid in building good business relationships which is essential for a business to prosper.
While diversity supplies many benefits, communication is an important issue which needs to be addressed. When sending out memos and other company notifications it is essential that communications are clear and concise. Using jargon will appear confusing to those from other cultures or ethnic backgrounds. Jargon consists of words or phrases which are more commonly understood by those who are native of a specific country. For instance here in the United States which
