Dangerous Games
CHAPTER ONE
Terrified Pam would show up at any minute, Carly threw a few things in an overnight bag, grabbed her purse, and headed for the door. It would only be for a little while, she told herself. Staying with Amber was a brilliant idea. Miami seemed like half a world away and Pam didn't even know Carly had a sister.
A blast of desert air hit her the moment she stepped outside of her Beverly Hills home. The winds were kicking up and would only make the fires worse. A quick glance down the well-manicured street brought thick tears to her eyes and she blinked hard to keep them from spilling over her cheeks. She wasn't going to break down now.

She had almost called the police, but the news hounds would've been all over it, and once the media got involved, her career would end up in the gutter. There was no way in hell she'd let that happen. She was the best in Hollywood, a high-profile personal publicist that played mommy' to the biggest names in the business. She'd line up interviews with Barbara Walters, TV appearances with Letterman and Leno, fielding the press and knowing when a savvy reporter was giving her a line of crap. And even though she was approaching forty, she could run circles around those twenty-something jokers trying to shut her out and wanting to get their hands on her clients.
Carly had worked her ass off to get where she was today. And it came with a price. After she earned her journalism degree, she started out as a staff publicist working
