Tips for naming your baby

By all means, give your baby a name that you not only feel comfortable with, but that society accepts as well. Believe me: society does judge people by their names. I'm using the following story that just made news recently as an example.

Here in Pennsylvania, there was a controversy over an Easton couple, Heath and Deborah Campbell, who were denied a birthday cake by a ShopRite over in New Jersey simply because they named their three-year-old child after Adolf Hitler. (This child turned 3 years old on December 14.) The mother requested that the ShopRite put "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler Campbell" on the birthday cake, but then the ShopRite refused it because they felt that it was inappropriate. For his other two birthdays, she also requested that a swastika be put on the cake, and once again, they refused. Therefore, she went over to a WalMart in Pennsylvania, and they did give her the cake. But then decided to review their policies. At the same time, the Campbells are suing the ShopRite.

The Campbells have two other kids: two girls named Joycelynn Aryan Nation and another one named after one of Hitler's Nazi generals.

It's bad enough that these Hollywood celebrities are giving their kids really weird names, but to name your child after one of the most hated, feared, and ruthless dictators in all of history, as well as after a term for a white supremacist group, is just an absolute insult to decent-living people everywhere! These poor kids are going to be ridiculed and judged by society. I can just imagine when the three-year-old gets older, and he's in high school, college, dating, gets married, gets a job, or has kids of his own. Are they going to say, "Hey, Adolf Hitler is the star quarterback", "I'm going out with a guy named Adolf Hitler", "I just hired a guy named Adolf Hitler", or "Adolf Hitler is my husband"?

If the Campbells have any more kids, are they going to name them after Sirhan Sirhan, the Son of Sam, Richard Speck (the guy who killed those student nurses in Chicago), Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Fidel Castro, Josef Stalin, Benito Mussolini, the Ayatollah Khomeini, James Earl Ray, Squeaky Fromme (who tried to kill Gerald Ford), Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel (all three of them were members of the famous Manson gang), or anybody else whose names conjers up images of evil, hate, and murder?

Parents today want to give their kids the most unique names ever, but they really need to think twice before they do. What's wrong with the old-fashioned
