Dating is an age-old ritual designed to allow two people to get to know each other. The focus should be about quality time, not about how much you can impress your date with a big price tag. If your date is only interested on how much money you'll spend on getting to know her (or him), find someone else to spend time with.
There are lots of things you can do together that won't break your budget. In fact, plenty of low or no-cost dates actually provide better opportunities for conversation and learning each other's interests and passions.
Picnics: Few things are more romantic than a picnic! Make it a special event, with wine, candles, and a tablecloth. Choose a pretty spot and bring along some soft background music that will provide ambience but won't interfere with conversation.
State Parks: Most parks require a nominal fee for admission and offer lots of activities. Depending on your date's interests, you could go hiking, sightseeing, fishing, or cycling. If the park is on the coast, nothing beats a walk on the beach!
Museums: No matter where your date's interests lie, there's sure to be a musem that caters to it. The two of you can view art, history, pop culture, dolls, Native American artifacts, telephones, music legends...the possibilities are endless. And the admission price is usually small.
Zoos: If your friend is an animal lover, the zoo is a perfect spot for viewing wildlife while strolling through scenic surroundings. Grab an ice cream cone and be a kid again!
Stargazing: Find a place away from the city lights for viewing the night skies. Take along a blanket, a telescope, and some wine. This is an especially amazing activity during a meteor shower. Just do a little research to find out when the next one occurs.
Craft Fairs: If your date is into crafts, a fair or festival is an inexpensive way to spend an afternoon. Most of these events offer food, too, so lunch or snacks will be readily available. If your guy or girl shows interest in some small item, buy it as a token of your day together.
Special Meal: Invite your date over for a home-cooked meal. Set the stage with candles and romantic music. You might even enlist the help of a friend to serve as your personal "waiter."
Horseback Riding: If your date has an interest in horses but rarely gets to ride, this activity could be a real treat! Perhaps you have a friend with horses who would let you "borrow" a couple of mounts. If not, locate a reputable stable. Bring your camera along for fun photos!
Animal Shows: Discover your date's interests and take her or him to a horse show, a rodeo, a dog show, or a cat show. Most of these events are inexpensive to attend.
Historical Sites: Depending on where you live, any number of fascinating sites might be available, including farming communities of the 19th century, battlegrounds, old mining towns, pioneer homesteads, fortresses, antebellum plantations,or pirate ships. You're sure to find one that will interest both you and your date.
You don't need a lot of cash to enjoy an activity with a date. Just take the time to discover your significant other's interests, then use your imagination!
