I love holiday food and I think all of us do. This shows because we make tons and tons of it to eat ourselves, feed to our families, and impress others at holiday parties and celebrations.
Eventually, though, the holidays end, and we grow tired of feasting to the point where the sight of food no longer entices us like it did at the beginning of the holiday season. Then, everyone leaves and there are no more parties and celebrations, but piles and piles of food still remain. So, what do we do with it?
Well, to be honest, you could just throw it all away and be done with it once and for all, but that is being wasteful and most of us would like to avoid that if at all possible, so now we need to rack our brain and think of any and all other alternatives that we may have for dealing with the dilemma of extra holiday food.
The first thought that comes to my mind is the homeless shelter at a nearby church near my home. Many of those people have nowhere to go for shelter or food day after day, mush less anywhere to go to be with family and friends during the holidays and enjoy the comfort and joys that most of the rest of us take for granted. So, taking extra holiday treats and foods to distribute at the homeless shelter would be a great idea and could really brighten the spirits of a lot of people who happen to currently be down on their luck.
Another thing I do with leftover holiday food is to freeze it. Even though the holiday food doesn't catch our eye anymore right now, it might later on. If you use high quality freezer bags and containers, the food will keep for a long time. Then, all you have to do is defrost it later on, when it interests you and your family again and enjoy it without having to go through all of the strenuous efforts of cooking and baking again that you did during the holidays. What could be better? you can have great holiday food throughout the year with little effort at all. Wow!
There are many other options for dealing with unwanted holiday food, just keep your ears and eyes open. If you pay attention and use a little creativity, an idea or several ideas will probably just come to you and it may be the greatest idea ever, you never know. Maybe there are people yu know who have no family or nowhere to go during the holidays, by bringing them some of your leftover holiday could really bring a smile to their face and make you feel really great in the process too. So, don't worry about that extra holiday food, odds are that there's a great chance that there's someone out there who would be very, very grateful for it.
