Everyone seems to relate to the day after Christmas being the 26th of December, to me however the day after Christmas is the final day, the twelfth day of Christmas so this takes it just a couple of days after New Year.
It only becomes a health hazard if you allow it. I think it's because that people have enjoyed time with their families or just time to do what they want to then find themselves being hurled back into the hum drum of every day life.
Christmas is truly a magical time so when it comes to an end so disappears the magic and we come back down to earth with a bump!, reality hits when the bills start coming through the door and some people realize that they will be paying for the Christmas they have just had until the next one comes around.
This is when stress and depression can set in (" The January Blues" ) but does it have to be that blue?.
Some hazards can be avoided, especially if they are self inflicted hazards i.e drinking too much, eating too much, spending too much. In the past I have always dreaded New Years Day knowing that I pick up my new diary and stare at all the blank pages wondering to myself will I survive the next twelve months?, what ills await me?, who close to me will I lose this year?, I flick through all the blank pages with all these thoughts so my blank diary becomes a hazard in itself through my own making.
But this year 2009 I have picked up that diary and instead of dreading the grey days of January, dreading the forthcoming year I have turned a negative into a positive, the sayings of "take each day as it comes", and "don't meet your problems half way", are my motto's for this year.
So when you are taking down this years Christmas decorations and you feel you are packing away all the magic that seemed to protect you through the festive season, just remember that there is magic in every season. As for hazards there are some we cannot avoid because some are fated to happen, whether good or bad they are part of life's tapestry.
Life is too short, so instead of worrying about all the hazards that life throws at us whether at Christmas or any other time of the year, switch off the hazard lights flashing in your head, and deal with your problems as they arise because the grey January days will always be there, hazards will always be there, don't let life control you, learn how to control life and don't put self inflicted hazards in your way, because there is a less hazardous life out there to live.
