Arsenal football club lead by Arsene Wenger in respects have many strengths and also have weaknesses. The squad is mostly youthful in that players from the youth system and young stars from abroad are included in the squad. This Arsenal team have not won anything for the past few years and now people have certainly been thinking that something must change. Largely the cause started from the strategic planning of the boardroom of Arsenal many years ago. The low spend policy on transfers and making money from the transfer market. Examples of profiteering include the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Real Madrid a while ago along with Thierry Henry. Both transfers made the club a great paper profit whilst the club was heavily in debt from the move from Highbury to the Emirates stadium.
The weaknesses of the current team include that the club does not have a solid defensive unit. There are no leaders or strong veteran players who are highly thought of based on name or have an international reputation. Arguably Gallas and Toure are strong experienced players though when they have a bad day then the rest of the team suffer. The same story can be said in midfield where so much emphasis is placed on the shoulders of Fabregas and Eboue. The strike force of Adebayor, Van Persie, and Bendtner leaves Adebayor as the main striker. This is also a problem as apart from Adebayor the rest of the team do not have strong attacking players who are able to score goals on a prolific basis.
Overall the team do not have sufficient quality as a whole and more emphasis is made on individual moments of brilliance or a great team play. The team during set pieces do not have a Frank Lampard, or a David Beckham type player who would make other teams feel scared. The young team whilst they have fast players seem to lack the overall composure and ability to convert chances as well as previous successful Arsenal squads.
Lack of spending in the transfer windows have certainly not helped Arsenal's cause along with the selling of top players of previous years. The tide may change where some of these weaknesses can soon be changed by bringing in some high quality players. These deficiencies have led to the inability of the team to win tournaments and finish in the top 3 in the past few seasons. There position is currently behind Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea who have spent heavily in recent seasons. The team also who are largely foreigners and whilst being youthful have not been able to adapt to the fast paced and fiercely competitive league as well as other teams above them. The style of European football is different to the English Premier league.
