Most people think it will be easy to be a webmaster if they know website design, or development. It is, however, much more than that. Being a webmaster means having complete control over a company or organization's website. This means everything: design, development, content, traffic, and maintenance.
There are different levels of webmastering, as a single webmaster working for a business, or as a group of webmasters, each focused in one particular area. For some, it can be a dream job; Focusing your skills in website creation and being the sole worker in charge of the business's online presence. So, what does it take to get into the webmaster world at all?
1) A Variety of Webmaster Knowledge
If you know HTML, you're not automatically a webmaster. If you know some neat tricks in Photohop, you're still not a webmaster. What knowledge is required? Well HTML and Photoshop are essentials, but learn a variety of web development languages and software to go along with it.

It is suggested that you own the Adobe software and specialize in this if you're aspiring to be a webmaster, but also know how to work around in Paint Shop Pro, the Microsoft products, and even open source software like Gimp.
2) Hardware Knowledge
Even though your job description includes the online world for your employer, you'll want to be familiar with various operating systems and servers too. Being a webmaster is technically an IT job, and that should be reflected in you.
They may have another IT employee to tackle the difficult problems, but basic server and various hardware maintenance is a must.
3) Marketing Savvy
What's a website without website visitors? One aspect of my resume that won me me webmaster job was that I knew SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
