Poetry: The wind

by Brian Willett

Created on: January 02, 2009

The gust begins
among the clouds
beside the sun
where stars are found
the power pure
and uncontrolled.

The force lies not
in waiting there
and flocks are
buffeted by the air
wondering how that not seen
could be so bold.

Still blowing strong
it flows robustly down
leaving trees trembling
bending toward ground
true brute strength
awesome to behold.

And mountain tops
painted in porcelain snow
are next to feel
the pounding blow
wind burns like fire
though intensely cold.

Even the boulders
mighty and wide
now shudder slowly
from side to side
as if reeling from
terrible secrets told.

And herds of horse
or mountain goats
brace from this gust
thankful for their coats
as another leg of this gust's
journey does unfold.

But traveling so far
has had an effect
and the wind now
is weaker to detect
though it is merely
a few hours old.

Finally it descends
and comes upon you
rustling your hair
its journey now through
the magic revealed
the story told.
