Testimonies: Why I like my school

I think I went to a very exceptional school and this is why................At the age of 11 I had found myself living with my father and his new wife (now my stepmom), they lived in the Channel Islands and the nearest new school for me was just a ten minute walk.

In trying to improve the things we did not like about school, open discussion was encouraged throught the whole school (all years 11 to 15/16 were involved) and by the first year there was an agreement that there would be no school uniform there fore we could wear what we wanted so long as we were clean and tidy dressed, there was a'' pin on ''emblem badge that could be worn and a yellow tie also that was all that was required as a dress code.

We had a very good cross section of teachers male and female young and old ,Some of the younger teachers we thought were quite '' hip'', one of them was our English teacher and the lessons became less sit at the desk and read but sit on the tables and chairs and discuss openly what we thought about topics or subjects, therefore enababling us to write better ,express, and understanding , our own and others feelings, we produced better work as well I think too.

On the sports field we excelled winning many of the islands sporting competions and some pupils represented the Island and school in France and the UK , one person from our year went on to be a premiership foorballer having been spotted by a Big foofball club that he always wanted to play for. We had a school brass band as well that also won inter island competions too.

Each teacher had a hobby or interest and they ranged from rock climbing to photography and art to sailing, and on a Friday afternoon we were or had joined one of these clubs/groups and the whole afternoon would be spent doing an activity, the final week of term before the summer the whole week would be dedicated to that hobby or interest, many of the groups leaving the island and going to the uk or the continent, I went cycling around Brittany France one year it was great fun.

Our two final two years would be spent gearing myself up for when I left school, we were able to do specific lessons that would be of benefit to us, as I wanted to be a chef I was able to go to college and achieve my required catering certificates and I swapped the woodwork and metalwork lessons for food technology.

I learnt well from my school thanks to my mentors/teeachers ,they helped set me up my career that has lasted me a life time, I have fed thousands and thousands of people, travelled the world more than once, and all because of my school.........
