was intrigued by this, and began to take a closer look at some of our other home school students in terms of their behavior in the open world. While I am simply an observer and not a scientist, it seemed to me that these students all struggled with those they encountered on campus who were of different opinions, races, and lifestyles than there own. In holding hard to the "values" that had been passed on to them, many of these students, without completely understanding their actions, contributed to an atmosphere on our campus that was often intolerant.

I have two young daughters, whom I have been home with now for over three years. I teach them ABCs and 123s, read to them and guide them as best I can. But as their minds grow, it's become evident to me that they need other children and people to expand their experiences and help them grow. As a result, I'm returning to work, and they are headed, one to pre-school and the other to day care.

As a parent, I too worry about what my children will learn in the greater world. I am concerned about the various pitfalls that come with falling into the wrong crowd and adopting dangerous behaviors. But I also believe that hiding the issues faced by so many in the real world does them a disservice. As a parent, my job is to be involved in their education, and also to teach and model the values of a decent life. They must make their own decisions, think their own thoughts and find their own way to become complete, self-aware adults. They cannot learn this from me alone.
