Perspectives on game consoles

the exception of the processor (which is faster to accommodate the controller interface, virtual games, and the wide-screen output). This basically means that Nintendo is betting the farm on essentially now-failed technology that's been on the market for nearly 5 years. I'm pretty sure that almost all serious gamers will have some sort of HD TV setup within the next year, and when they plug in a Wii to an HD system, well, talk about disappointing graphics compared to PS3 or Xbox 360. And title conversions (those games that PS3, Xbox, and Wii will all have in common) do and will look _considerably_ crappier (both because of the graphics _and_ the lack of next gen processing speed). Call Of Duty looks _way_ crappier and runs slower on the Wiitrust me.

But if that's not bad enoughnot having a hard drive is almost criminal! If you plan to download virtual games (those games from other systems like NES and N64 and Turbo Grafx systems that Nintendo is now selling on-line), not only are you going to have to spend _more_ on Wii per game as compared to Xbox Live Arcade, but you're going to have to buy memory cards to store them on. AND you're going to have to wait for them to download a _lot_ longer than with Xbox considering the Wii has no network connection other than Wi-Fi. But wait, there's morewant to play those retro games you downloaded or your old Game Cube games? Better plan on shelling out another $30 per controller on top of the pointer/controllers you need for the Wii games.

Best To Wait

I know it's hard to believe from the first few reviews on this blog, but I really hate ripping on thingsbe it games or systems. But it's pretty hard not to rip on the Wii once the initial euphoria wears off. No HD output, no hard drive, no direct high speed network connection, the need for 2 sets of controllers, and no next gen speed or graphics tells me that in a year, there will be plenty of used Wii systems on the market. Once there are plenty of good PS3 games and even more Xbox 360 games out, that is. Yes, I understand the Wii is only $250 versus the Xbox $399 and PS3 $599, but heck, I can get a used Game Cube for $50 bucks so how is $250 a deal? My recommendation: unless you play _lots and lots_ of party games, or the only kind of game you like is Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero, save your money and buy an Xbox.
