Why the cell phone use should be banned while driving? Supporters of banning cell phone use while driving would probably say that it diverts attention of the driver that may cause accidents. Accident due to use of cell phone is only a fraction of the total numbers of accidents being caused from other causes like drinking and driving, over speeding, etc. Safety measures and laws could be in place to ensure that driver can use cell phone without any risk. Use of hands free or blue tooth head set can easily spare driver from holding the cell phone by one one hand driving with only onehand.Thought of banning cell phone use while driving is a negative approach to the issue, positive approach should be to find ways how it could be made more safe.

While driving there is no restriction on smoking, gearing radio or music, looking at GPS screen and many other similar activities that requires attention as well as use of hands, then why should be restriction on use of cell phones be there? Cell phone is essentialcommunication and has become a part of our life. It is unimaginable that a person on long drive is completely out of communication with his family, friends or workplace. Take for an example that you are travelling by road on business or office jobs, due to some reason your destination need to changed or no need to go at all. You will get the information through cell phone immediately. It is not worth that you reach the destination then come to know that actually there was no need to come here or you have to go to some other place. It is a sheer wastage of time, man hour and fuel. Allowing use of cell phone while driving will save many situations like this.

Use of hands free set while driving is already mandatory in almost all over the world. Law could be made to limitone touch dial numbers only while driving so that the driver does not have to hover through keyboards many times for making a call. This will mean rest-riced destinations dialing only but still better than not being able to use the cell phone at all. Laws could be there making it mandatory to fix the mobile in a holder, restricting drivers to play with the set while driving. Whole idea is to make the cell phone use simpler so that it require only momentary use of one hand to press a button only.

Our approach should be to make the cell phone use much safer while driving, not ban it. It is an essential communication equipment and none should be forced toremain out of touch with the rest of the worlds while he is driving - as if he is lost in a deep forest.
