I read several of the articles posted on this sight. They give lots of factual information which is great if you want to know facts. I have several aussies and I am in love with them totally! They are a very versatile dog. They are extremely smart. They are very people oriented. They are so lovable. They can be an indoor or an outdoor dog. Ours are both.
They are big dogs, but when in the house they are very well behaved and do not rough house as they do outside. They are active outside and roam with our animals. Inside they lie at our feet or by the chair and watch TV. They do follow us and are very curious.
My baby is a red merle named Cloud. She has one blue eye and one brown one. She has a white coat, on top is a strawberry blone color and big red spots on that. She has copper trimmings to go with all the other color. She is such a lady! She sits and begs for her cookies and other treats. She is not just a dog, she is one of my children. When I come home from work she makes her body into a U shape and wags her bob tail, she looks like she is laughing because she is so happy to see me, she can't wait to come with me. She is my companion!
The books say they are a great dog and they are right. We have cattle and have had cow dogs in the past, but my aussies are the best. They have a soft mouth, by that I mean they don't try to rip the cows feet off when they bite. They are not a hard headed dog,and that means a lot when you are training them to work. My big black male Mizzou, who is 24 inches tall and 24 inches long and weighs 75 pounds and is not fat is the most wonderful dog around children. I have a two year old grandson whom I only get to see about once every two or three months, comes out and gets on his back and rides him like a horse. Seth and Mizzou both have a good time. My grandson takes Mizzou's food out of his mouth and then gives it back, then laughs. Mizzou follows Seth everywhere. They came out this past summer and Seth was playing in our yard, with Missou following, all of a sudden Mizzou started barking, we run out and Mizzou was standing between Seth and a snake, a rattlesnake to be exact. These dogs are so loyal. Another thing I love about them is that they don't bark unless there is a reason. You are not up all night with the barks even from the pups.
My son has a lot of company come to our house. When cloud is inside with me, the way I know someone is at the house is she raises up and stands looking at the door, no barking just looking. These dogs are protective but not aggressive. They make wonderful companions for the young and the old.
Our dogs love to ride in the pickup. They love to go check the cows or go to the local coffee shop with my husband. They wait patiently in the truck. They travel very well. They love vacation as much as we do. You can take them to the motel rooms and not worry about them barking the entire time you are gone from them. They pretty much are the perfect breed of dog.
We have had many breeds of dogs at our house over the years but none like our aussies. I wouldn't trade my dogs for any other kind.
