First, I must mention that this title leaves quite a bitter taste in my mouth. Due to the fact that I have personally witnessed a horrible court case dealing with a girl and a young man, they were 20 and 18. They had met on the internet and the girl totally set up this young man. He was a nice guy who was in college and doing really good. It was obvious to all of us that sat there and listened. However, the defendant's attorney died within a month after requesting a trial and he was stuck with the in experienced attorney that assisted the hired attorney. The hired attorney had a great reputation for handling these types of cases and had proof that was needed .emails, pictures, etc. the fill in attorney did not use any of those documents. He did not defend; he did not put the guy up on the standhe actually advised him to not speak. He did not even meet with the young man before the day of the trial.
The defendant had no idea what to say or do and was simply scared to death. The family has never dealt with such a thing. They only knew what they'd seen on television. It was so obvious that this family was an upper middle class family with good morals and values. The girl had fabricated the entire story along with her high school boyfriend.
The family spent $10K on the hired attorneythere was no money left to fight the verdict. The judge sentenced him to 36 to 54 months and was crediting him with the time already served in county. The DA's office was out for bloodas she stood up and demanded a tail of 15 years. The judge literally spoke right to the young man; "I do not want to do this but I have to.it is obvious you just had a bad judgment and I do hope that you have learned to read people better and when things don't look right you should walk away."
Well, this young man still has 21 months left until the minimum is upAs for programs, he has not had to complete any due to the psych test that were given for the crime he was wrongly convicted of. The counselors at his facility found the entire case bizarre. However, you can not fight the system unless you are filthy rich or know someone in the higher up.
It is so sad to know there are a lot of men and women out there that have been wrongly convicted. It sure has opened my eyes to the "UNJUST" or our "JUSTICE SYSTEM". Also, this girl who ruined this young man's life is
