Fanfare for the Ordinary Man
I am an ordinary man
Engaged in the vanilla struggle
Of everyday existence
To make ends meet
To please others
To raise my children
To try and make a difference
For as long as I am given
I am an ordinary man
Who finds joy in the everyday
Simple pleasures of life
The rosy tint of dawn
The power of words
The plumage of a bird
The warmth of your embrace
All things which make me smile
I am an ordinary man
Unafraid to show he cares
When the world seems to
Accept what is
Accept injustice
Accept indifference
Accept inaction
Even small steps make a difference
I am an ordinary man
Who looks in his children's eyes
And sees the world as they do
With hope and wonder
With no burden of fear
To nurture their dreams
To be there for them
For as long as I am needed
