Are you aware that there are 10 common plants that you may have in your home that can poison your cat? Take a look! We all worry about the mischief our pets might get into
If you have these common plants around your house here are some of the risks to your cat.
Marijuana - This could cause depression of the central nervous system as well as vomiting, increased heart rate and coma in your cats. Clearly in most municipalities it's illegal to boot but that doesn't mean it's not in your home.
Sago Palm - Eating the seeds can result in vomiting, depression and liver failure.
Lilies - Small amounts can cause kidney damage to cats - watch for this especially around Easter when many of us receive these beautiful plants as a gift.
Tulip/Narcissus Bulbs - Causes loss of appetite, convulsions and cardiac problems.
Azalea/Rhododendron - Severe poisoning can result in coma and death - mild poisoning can result in vomiting and diarrhea. These can be founds in many years, whether it's your yard or a neighbors yard - keep your cats clear of them (probably your dogs too)
Oleander - Can cause abnormal heart function, hypothermia and death.
Castor Bean - Can produce stomach pain, excessive thirst, dehydration, coma and death.
Cyclamen - The plant root if ingested can cause stomach irritation and intense vomiting.
Kalanchoe - Can affect heart rhythm and rate as well as gastrointestinal irritation.
Yew - Can cause lack of coordination, breathing problems and cardiac failure.
During the festive holiday season, please watch out for mistletoe as it's highly toxic to your cat (and your dog too). And, contrary to what we've been hearing for years, poinsettia ingestions typically produce only mild to moderate gastrointestinal tract irritation, which may include drooling, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Therefore, while keeping this plant out of the reach of your pet you need not fear the poinsettia and banish it from your home.

Use Caution Along with Common Sense!
Nothing can replace your common sense! If you have these plants in your home please put them out of your kitten or cats reach! Putting plants up out of your pets reach isn't hard to do with a little forethought.
