Best of 2008: TV show (Comedy)

telling his story about the Tsunamarama' musical and Jonah dressing in barely thigh length shorts.

I dare anyone to watch Summer Heights High without laughing as it surely just isn't possible.

Another pot of gold to come out of 2008 was The Inbetweeners. The 6 part series follows four suburban teenagers in their hectic life of underage drinking, (attempted) sex and school life focussing on the private school educated Will who is thrown it at the deep end in his new city comprehensive. Of course, quite inevitably, much of what they do has disastrous consequences.

I was quite reluctant to watch The Inbetweeners at first, thinking it would just be one of those annoying unrealistic teenage fantasies where everyone gets straight A's in school, they all have beautiful partners and everyone can dance like a professional. Thankfully, it was nothing like that at all, they was a very awkward air of realism with The Inbetweeners which will without a doubt have reminded the viewers of their own school days as the boys skip classes, ogle over girls' breasts, get drunk and get sick, fail exams and still have time to brag about their mythical conquests. A particular highlight of mine is when main character Will has his first attempt at sex which portrays to perfection the sort of awkwardness that we all had during our first time.

Although The Inbetweeners is aimed at a younger audience with the modern soundtrack paying testament to such, older viewers will be more than amused by its offerings as after all, everyone was a teenager once. Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have created a show that brilliantly moves from subtle wry smiles to full out laughter within moments, one of which being when Simon (A friend that Will makes) throws up over the little brother of the love of his life.

The appeal of The Inbetweeners is in the dialogue which is in no way dissimilar to something you would here on the street on any regular Saturday afternoon. This is a perfectly executed piece of comedy which I would highly recommend to anyone.

Finally, the little known How Not to Live Your Life was one of my favourite comedies in 2008. The show follows a neurotic 29 year old, Don, failing to navigate his way through the very basics of life. His biggest enemy is his overactive mind which provides us with countless cut scenes of things that he shouldn't do or say in given situations. Some that spring to mind are 5 ways not to quit your jobs and 5 things you shouldn't say after a one night stand. After moving
