If you get through hosiery like there's no tomorrow then your heart will leap for joy when you see the prices in Primark. From simple black opaque to jazzy fishnets and bright colours, all for a few pounds or a couple of dollars. Who's to know where they came from?

Long-sleeved tops

For layering under t-shirts or over long vests. Plain and striped versions are the most versatile.

Steer clear of:

Knee length boots

Even if they are made of leather, cheap boots rarely look good or last the distance. You might be better off saving for a good quality pair or striking it lucky in the sales.

Designer knockoff handbags

These very, very rarely look good quality. A second hand leather or unusual vintage bag can exude much more quality and presence than a cheap knockoff.

Very trendy clothes

A bright green vest dress with rainbow buttons? Gold leggings? This just screams Primark'. Unless you're 17 years old or you're really trying to make a statement, stick with the classic items.

Elegant' Coats

Everyday coats can be a bargain. But try not to choose your everyday winter/work coat from a budget store. It's the first item of clothing that most people will see you in over the winter months. And it's really annoying when the buttons start falling off.
