Poetry: Experiencing nature

by Brian Willett

Created on: December 29, 2008

The sky melts and smears over the mountains
Fog swallows whole the trees
The sun retreats into the shadows
Discouraged by the great grey earth.

Solemn silence hangs
Like a noose on the playground
Moisture fills the air
Ready to soak hopeful dreams

Goosebumps rise like gravestones
The chill of aging seeps into bone
Excitement yields to anxiety
And wind whispers lost lovers' names
