Poetry: Jesus

by Brian Willett

Created on: December 29, 2008

I did not ask for this

The weight of this wood

The burden of your sins

The saddle of your expectations

I see in your eyes

A flash of my father's

And my bones bow

As I acquiesce to demands of destiny

I did not ask for this

Sun blistering my skin

Sand scoring my eyes

Sweat dampening my thoughts

Until they tear like paper

I try to breathe in

But the air is heavy with your guilt

And my lungs sink as stones

I did not ask for this

Hammers pronouncing my fate

Blood blurring my vision

Nails gnawing at my soul

You will praise my name

After it is far too late

For you to take my place

But for now you offer only spit and scorn

I did not ask for this

Pulse growing weak

Hate flowing strong

And pain enveloping all

Yet here I hang

As if an embodiment of your evil

Setting you free from your sins

As they bury me alive

I did not ask for this

But your weakness demanded it

Do you even realize

The reason I died?
