Aaah winter. The weather is cold, the air is crisp and football is in full swing. With the change in the season can also come uncomfortable changes in our skin. Take note of these season changing beauty tips to keep your skin in tip top shape as we move into the cooler months.
As the weather cools, we become exposed to indoor heating, which removes humidity from the air and, in turn, has a drying effect on the skin. To combat this, drink plenty of water to keep hydrated from the inside, use a humidifier in doors to keep a reasonable level of moisture in the air, and switch to a heavier moisturizing cream to combat the adverse effects on the outside. A good one to try is Bioelements Crucial Moisture (2.5 oz., approximately $25). This moisturizer instantly relieves dryness and reduces surface lines, leaving skin soft, smooth and feeling hydrated. If you apply your moisturizer while skin is still a little damp, it aids in sealing in the moisture even more. And speaking of damp skin
Baths and showers that are too hot can also deplete the skin of its natural moisture. If you are a person who enjoys frequent long, hot showers or baths, this is likely contributing to your dry skin woes. Consider cooling the temperature of your bath or shower, and even decreasing the length and frequency during key times of the year when your skin is most dry. This will help you to maintain your skin's natural oils more effectively. If you absolutely cannot live without your daily scalding hot shower or bath, look for a good body lotion or body butter to apply while skin is still damp. Pay particular attention to areas of particular dryness, such as the legs, knees, heels and elbows. A great one to try for intensely dry skin is Yube Moisturizing skin cream (1.25oz., approximately $15). This product's non-greasy formula contains glycerin, vitamin E and vitamin B12 to aid in the healing process of excessively dry skin.
If you've already found areas of dryness, frequent exfoliation can help in keeping dry skin looking and feeling smoother. A great product to try for daily exfoliation of the face is Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant (2.7oz, approximately $49). It contains a unique rice-based formula that, upon contact with water, releases gentle skin smoothing acids and additives to smooth the skin and speed up cell renewal. For the body, ~H20+ makes the Sea Salt Foaming Body Polish (8 oz., approximately $18.50). The consistency of this product is nice and thick, like a combination scrub and body wash, and the scent is clean and fades after use. It does the trick when it comes to exfoliating and washing away those dry skin patches, leaving soft and smooth skin in its place.
By taking a few simple steps, and trying a few new products, you and your skin may just be able to find another reason to celebrate the season change!
