Every year, new gadgets come on to the market and it is impossible not to be amazed by their innovative prowess. Whether it be cameras, phones, iPods or computers, those busy scientists have yet again managed to come up with products that are even better than those we thought they couldn't possibly improve! As we edge nearer to a world of virtual reality what has 2008 brought in to rock the foundations of tomorrow's world?
In what has been a pretty turbulent year for technology, the Lab has blasted out some pretty special products. A worthy mention must go to the second coming of the Jesus phone, the Peek e-mail device and of course the iPod Touch but there are a few gadgets which stand out above all of these to be the cream of 2008.
Let's start with the new Apple Macbook, possibly the most powerful and user friendly computer available in its range. This version of the Macbook has sharper graphics, seems to be virtually resistant to crashing and the hard shell creates an almost impermeable shield for even the most clumsy of user. It's easy to use and better still, for those who aren't used to using a Mac, it's possible to toggle into Windows mode and use the more familiar PC based programs. Ok, it may not be the most exciting of gadgets but the fast improving Macbook just shows and incredible advancement in technology.
One of the most innovative gadgets from 2008 must be the Eye-Fi Explore SD Card. The name probably doesn't explain too clearly what it is so lets go in to slightly more detail. This tiny 2MB card is capable of uploading photos automatically from your camera to whatever online service you prefer, whether it be Flickr, Snapfish or Picasa. As well as that, the card can beam pictures to your home computer's hard drive, meaning that you don't even have to physically connect your camera. Better yet, the Eye-Fi can even upload pictures while you are on the move so you don't even have to wait to get home before saving those precious moments. The online services can even save your location when it uploads the photos just in case you forget later. This is a great little invention and available for less than $150 which is as good a bargain as you're likely to get.
Something a little bit different to the norm is the Herman Miller Embody Chair which has seen many a person sitting comfortably in 2008. Designed by Bill Stumpf who was responsible for Herman Miller's original Aeron creation, the Embody certainly brings a new sense of satisfaction to the derriere.
