Houseplants: How to care for Chlorophytum (Spider Plant)I truly love to keep my houseplants. But all of them are much too big for my home today. However, I have kept just one house plant which makes me smile everytime I look at it. It is a Chlorophytum a "spider plant." I have had it for many years and it just keeps growing tiny new spider babies for me. The leaves are my most favorite color. The leaves are a light green mixed with white edges. The new spider babies start to grow in a sort of a bundle of leaves with roots growing from from the bottom stems of the leafy plant. I know there are many different kinds of spider plants but this is my favorite one. I have given my baby spider plants to my neighbors, friends, and family. I even donated one this year to the Church. I do plan to keep growing these lovely spider babies. I suppose that I will be growing them until the day that I die. It is my hope that they will even plant one with me.
Spider plants are beautiful to look at and even more beautiful to grow because they need very little care. The plants only need a little grooming to take off slowly browning leaves. THe spider plants need a little bit of water from time to time. The "spider plants" only need watering about once every two weeks, a little sunshine in the early morning hours, and they are good to go. The best "no worry" plant that you could have. If your leaves do start to turn brown then you are watering them too much. Cut back a little bit on the water and they will be all right. They seem to like a little bit of the dry roots. You can also take off the baby spider plants to start new ones if you wish. Make sure that the new plants have a full set of roots to choose from. If you want to start a new plant, then just place the roots in a pot of soil. Water a little bit, make sure that it has sunshine at least part of the day, and you are good to grow.
I asked my Mother one time which houseplant she had that she liked the best. She looked thoughtful for a moment, and then turned and said to me, "Well, I love your lovely spider plants." " They are so easy to grow." I think you could ask that of anyone who loves house plants and that would be their answer. I am looking forward to growing old with my lovely spider plant. I guess you might say that I am a spider plant entusiast. I do like to think so.
But remember if you see a beautiful spider plant, ask the person who owns it if you could have a start. You may get a new spider plant to start. Just place it in a pot pf dirt, then water a little bit and you could have your very own lovely spider plant.
