So long the tobacco production is permitted, there should be no reason to stop its advertisement. It is very true that tobacco is bad for health and it causes harm to not only the smokers, but other innocent people around the smokers as well. Most of the governments has banned Smoking in public places or confined spaceswith centralized cooling or heating system to safeguard otherinnocent people around the smokers. Tobacco product packets need to be printed with health hazard warning by laws, so that user knows the consequences of smoking. On top of all these measures, there should be no valid reason for banning its advertisement, as it is being produced and tobacco product manufacturing industries are are continuing with the productions in full swing. There should be no reason to stop advertisement of a legal product inspite of having the appropriate warning in the advertisement.
People learn smoking looking at their parents or friends. They first inhale few puffs just out of curiosity to know that how it is? Why so many are smoking around? Many of them can not get rid from smoking and it turns into addiction. Advertisement plays very little role although it might tacitly create an urge for smoking, but the fact is that even without advertisement the person would have tried to test smoking.
I would not say that smoking is good it should be encouraged by attractive advertisements. My point is that it is an approved business. The industry is probably letting governments to earn quite high amount of revenue from the taxes on tobacco and itsproducts. So why its advertisement should be banned? Alcohol also bad for health and often it assist in creating nuisances by the excessive alcohol drinkers. Drinking and drive causes loss of huge amounts of lives every year all over the world. We have not thought of banning advertisement of alcoholic products yet.
Advertisement industry making a share of their earning from tobacco product advertisement. In other words allowing employment of people. Banning of tobacco advertisement may lead many of the advertising companies to trim their manpower to cope up with reduced earning.
In my opinion it is best to have positive approach in reducing number of smokers rather than banning its advertisement. I would support in creating more awareness among people, specially the teen age groups, so that the habit of smoking is not picked up at the first place. Their home and educational institutes could be an ideal place to motivate them to refrain from picking up the bad habit. For adult smokers, their workplace could be an ideal place by motivating and creating awareness. Even there could be some sorts of incentive for non-smokers or for those who quits smoking voluntarily. In line with governements, organizational efforts are also necessary to reduce the number of smokers
