With so many to choose from and with the majority being about as useful as a chocolate teapot, picking the best website of 2008 is pretty tough. However, there are a number which certainly have cemented their place within the world wide web and will probably still be about when we're deciding the best sites for 2009.
There is probably not a person on Earth by now who hasn't heard of Myspace, Facebook, Google, Amazon, eBay or Wikipedia and technically, if you were judging by sheer volume of users, any of these could be voted as the best site of 2008. However, there are hundreds of very useful up-and-coming sites that lots of people simply haven't heard of yet which step a little bit outside of the norm. Although of the above are great sites, they are becoming a bit old hat now so who are the new kids on the block?
One of the most imaginative websites must be Howcast.' This how-to site is different from all its counterparts in that it uses video as opposed to basic descriptive text. Lets face it, most of us would rather watch television than read a textbook (that may be a huge generalisation but stay with me) making Howcast a great piece of learning material. Above all else, Howcast breaks from the likes of eHow by injecting just a little bit of humour into its videos. With gems such as "how to become a saint," "how to deal with a screaming child while shopping" and "how to make a move on a girl," it would be fair to say that there is something for everyone.
Perhaps one of the most innovative websites is Omiru. This is a fashion site with a twist in that it is tailored for the style of each and every person that visits it. Instead of informing you about fashion trends, Omiru tells you what will actually suit you, depending on your shape, figure, height and size. The focus on practical fashion makes it well worth a visit before you going shopping elsewhere online.
Maybe the most useful site out there are the moment is TripKick. How many times have you visited a hotel only to be stuck in a dingy or grimy room and nothing can be done about it? Well, with TripKick you don't have to worry any more. This site is just a baby as far as the Internet goes, launching in 2008 but is brilliant in its concept. TripKick goes through numerous hotels across the US telling you which floors and better still which individual rooms to avoid. Whether it be a noisy ice machine by the door or a building site view out of the window, TripKick has it all. All travellers can add their own
