The idea of personal morals has been eliminated in today's society

by Hayley Nastasijevic

The understanding and use of morals in todays society has greatly changed and has become somewhat an ancient practice. In todays world what we as individuals consider as personal morals come under much scrutiny and we continually question if that moral is appropriate for the time and whether it really matters anymore. So much has changed in the world and it has brought about the changing of our personalities and caused us to reconsider our once unquestioned morals. From the war in Iraq and whether it is justified, the changing climate, the fall in our economy and job losses to the lack of money, they as well as others have all influenced our own morals and forced us to think deeper.

The simplicity of doing the right thing over the wrong thing has almost completely disappeared,it is not as simple today as it may have once been, today we consider if that right action will bring more harm or suffering upon ourselves and if so most of us will choose the latter in the hope of self-preservation.Our nature to help others is diminishing because our own need for help is increasing, our animalistic instinct of self survival is becoming the main factor in our reasoning process.

Personal morals still exist on the smaller scale and in some individuals who do not let the changing world affect them you will find that it still thrives. It is a matter of personal choice in the end, whether you choose to use them or not is completely up to you,but when you take a look at the road that the world is heading in it isn't surprising that our morals have slipped away.Take a look at the justice system we have today,a system that is proven to punish the victim,a system that lets child molesters free into the world,a system that does not cater for all crimes in the rehabilitation department,a system that time and time again continues to fail.If a burglar enters your home and falls and hurts himself he is completely free by law to sue you for damages,if you are attacked and defend yourself and happen to kill your attacker you can be charged, when we have systems like this around it really isn't surprising that our morals are packing up and leaving town.If our governing bodies make a stance on our way of life and choose to use their own morals when making decisions about the world and its people then maybe we will then see personal morals coming back into play and our society may take a turn for the better instead of heading down the path of destruction as we are now.
