•Demon
A clear definition for demon comes from the Book of Enoch. In a parallel passage to Genesis 6, the Book of Enoch expands the story: the angels who have rebelled against God come to earth and intermarry with human women. The hybrid offspring created from this union are called Nephilim. The Nephilim are an abomination, huge in stature and violent in nature. They begin to kill one another and then Noah's flood kills the rest along with mankind.
At death the Nephilim face a paradox. Because they were not part of God's creation but are an abomination there is no provision made for their afterlife. They have a spiritual nature inherited from their angelic fathers and a flesh nature given them by mortal women. So at death they are destined to roam the earth in their spiritual state constantly seeking to fulfill their craving of flesh through possession of those still living. "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.'(Luke 11:24) This is a demon.
From Enoch 15:8-10:
"Now the giants (Nephilim), who have been born of spirit and of flesh, shall be called upon the earth evil spirits (demons), and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits (demons) proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above;
Those who accept a demon willingly, through channeling or mediumistic skills, will be the beneficiary of supernatural knowledge and abilities. Demons have been around for thousands of years: they have experiential knowledge gained from time plus they have hidden knowledge passed on from their angelic fathers. It is a huge temptation for humans to tap into this knowledge but it will ultimately be their downfall. The demon will only impart as much as is useful to himself and then will waste away its willing host over time. The demon is an accomplished liar and can be no other way.
•Spirit
Spirit (or soul) is that part of us that is God-breathed. Genesis 2:7 says "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." It is that part of us that leaves our earthly bodies at death. Occasionally it separates at other times temporarily in the instances of Near Death Experiences (NDEs), Out of Body Experiences (OBEs) and related phemonena. What it leaves behind is an empty shell that no longer contains that indefinable thing that is our essence, including
