NFL commentary: Brett Favre comes out of retirement

Brett Favre did come out of retirement or did he actually? Is it really retirement when you decide to come back for the next season. It technically doesn’t count but a media storm has been all over it. He would “retire” and would eventually return to the NFL but would be traded to the Jets. He wanted to go to the Vikings since he wasn’t going to given back his starting job once it was handed to Aaron Rogers. Honestly, it was one of the worst moments for Favre and made himself look bad.

As far as the circumstances, if you needed an answer as to what needs to be done in the Quarterback position, wouldn’t you want it taken care of as soon as possible? What Green Bay did was the right thing and there wasn’t any other alternative method. They didn’t feel like playing into the game where Favre would have waffled on the thought of retirement year after year. When assessing it, it’s one thing to think about it and keep it private but to have never-ending speculation on it really made it a lot worse. Personally, it made him look like a guy who would be labeled double-minded.

Don’t take it the wrong way, he is one of the top Quarterbacks of all-time and will be a Hall of Fame one at that. It’s just his legacy right now could end up being extended to the guy who just waffled and would be a distraction to a team. He finally got his wish and is playing for the Minnesota Vikings. There had been some speculation but at this point, can it be believed? Not a chance at all. It’s like the story The Boy Who Cried Wolf; if you remember how the boy tricked the people so many times they wouldn’t believe him. When the wolf did show up, no one believed him despite being truthful. Until he isn’t putting on a uniform to play another season for sure, he’s still active.

He probably will be playing and there is no reason to believe he is retired just yet. It would be like believing that Roger Clemens did retire until he was forced out due to the scandals. He really never retired and just kept playing and at a certain point, you just couldn’t believe it until he just quietly disappeared. Favre may have to do the same thing in that he would have to quietly retire so that he doesn’t go on about it. Maybe it would be best if he kept his mouth shut about it. Keep in mind that this is just an opinion on that and not fact. The fact is that he has been wavering about it and doing it again, this time to the Vikings. Hopefully, they get an answer and start demanding one so that they can prepare for the next Quarterback in line. Until he doesn’t step on the floor and actually play a game, it’s going to be hard to believe that he has retired.
