Ways to get rid of the post-holiday blues

For most people the excitement builds up as they prepare for the holiday season. As each day passes, the calendar indicates the big days are soon approaching. After the preparations are finished and the celebrations begin before you know it, the holidays are over in the blink of an eye.

After the festivities are over many people experience a level of the blues, even if the days were wonderful and full of joy. This bit of a down feeling typically arrives shortly after all the festivities quiet down. As quick as the holidays came they are now a memory and the New Year commences. When this time arrives, a good percentage of the population find themselves feeling a bit down in the dumps.

If you find you're experiencing a big of a post-holiday melancholy you might be searching for a way to combat these feelings. If so, here are a few great ways you can try and curb those post-holiday blues:

*Vary Your Normal Routine

One of the biggest contributors to post-holiday blues is returning back to normal routines. If the thought of getting stuck in the same old routine is unappealing to you and making you feel a little depressed, try varying up your normal schedule.

Some ways you can try and pull out of the blues is to meet with friends for coffee, volunteer at a local non-profit or take up some new hobbies to shake up your normal routine. A change of pace might be just the pick-me-up you need in order to break the gloominess.

Frequent trips to the movie rental store or the library and rent some comedies or motivational movies or books are often up-lifting. Another idea you can try is to go to the theatre and take in a good new release; try to see if you can go with friends. When you keep busy you'll keep your body moving and your mind active too.

*Keep Active

The cold months sometimes have a tendency to make people become more sedate. A sedentary lifestyle primes you to feel a little blue because you are inactive and the body becomes sluggish and this leads to depressed feelings; it also gives you more time to think about the things bothering you.

Try a new exercise routine, or if weather permits take up jogging or find a buddy to go with you for walks. If the weather is too cold, consider indoor activity; head over to the local mall and briskly walk around the inside. If you keep active this will keep your mind occupied and you'll feel more energized and happy. This revitalization might be just the pick me up you need.

*Take a Short Trip

Wintertime is cold, often damp
