Pennies in a jar
One by one the pennies pile up the whole
Rusted royal faces on round rings stare bold
At half empty room with half eaten bowl
Of last nights dinner left there until cold
Strewn clothes and papers line the floor
Wide open on the vacancy pages
Three or four circled adds crossed out. No store
Nor any other place paying wages
Which would keep up with the two weeks of rent
Or fill the fridge freezer with frozen food
To feed a hungry stomach that is spent
From this vicious circle of life that has brewed
The pennies are almost full it's not far

Poetry: Poverty
by Karina Gray
Love of a Friend
A shaggy, mangy mutt as her only companion
A starved, elderly woman sat all alone
As famished as she was she
His poverty was quite profound;
Being bereft of many basic needs,
Sustained from day to day
Partly by others' charitable deeds.
by Bill Yuska
Dirty and unkempt greets the morn,
Wondering why it came to be so torn.
Played the game by the golden rule,
Just to become
I look into the eyes poverty and it makes me cry.
This poverty causes you great pains.
I can see it in your battle
Poetry: Poverty
Nature's Seeds
Sun stained face
Coloured black from the rays
Bathed in a continuous flow
Of salty stenched
