I have owned purebred pit bulls as well as other breeds including jack russel's and chihuahuas and found that the smaller dogs were more antagonistic and easily agitated than the pit bull. There really is no dangerous breed of dog, just dangerous owners. The simple fact is that if you do not train,do not respect and do not look after your dog their attitudes and behaviour will worsen over time. They are not that different from you and I really because if you mistreat a child and you don't show them right from wrong you are in fact changing their attitudes and behaviour as well. When untrained and treated incorrectly any animal, regardless of type or breed can be dangerous and aggressive, therefore the behaviour and temperament of that animal falls into the hands of the owner.
Its up to the owner to decide what type of dog they will have and when put in the hands of an irresponsible and foolish owner the quality of life for that poor animal is greatly diminished.Specific breeds, such as pit bulls, boxers and other breeds have a bad reputation of being a so called dangerous breed because of those irresponsible and idiotic owners that choose to use the power and force of such an animal for battles against other dogs.Forcing these animals to fight against each other causing gruesome injuries and sometimes death. The dogs in these situations do not choose to do this because it is what they love to do,they are forced into it and most of the time these dogs are scared to death of their owners because they get beaten and tortured if they do not perform properly or are not doing as they were told.
Obedience training, socialising, love and care is what will make the difference,if you treat your dog as you would like to be treated then you will have no problems. There are many obedience schools out there that work on all areas of behaviour and socialisation and they will teach you how to continue the training at home. When choosing an obedience school make sure you look into them thoroughly and that they are a reputable organisation so that you and your dog will be shown correct methods and not fooled into believing that its ok to belt your dog when they misbehave.
If you unsure of what breed to buy I recommend that you contact authorised and registered breeders and ask them any questions that you may have and majority of the time they will be more than happy to show you the parents of the pups so that you can see first hand what their temperaments are like.If you see that the parents are well behaved and well treated then the pups would have been brought up in the same conditions.
When you consider a supposed dangerous breed just think that if you took a person and flogged and tortured them if they didn't do as they were told and treated them badly all the time, what sort of attitude and temperament do you think they might have? But if treated with love and care and looked after correctly the outcome is much different.
