Books are the holograms of past and the present. They're the perfect form of escapism, of teaching, of enjoying. There are millions of books out there that are worth being read. From all the ones I have read in my life so far, I will name 5 that I think people of different reading interests will all derive pleasure from.
1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: It's a classic, and rightly so. It is completely absorbing and you feel like you are in that era of curtsies and balls and landscapes. The characters are so real, and they evoke such tremendous emotion in you. What makes it even more realistic is that you sometimes love and sometimes hate them. Everyone should read and treasure this masterpiece.
2. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine: This is a particularly lovely tale for all those out there who grew up on fairy tales. This particular novel is based on Cinderella, and it's just plain fun to read. There's not much else to say about it. It's a book that satisfies you every time you read it.
3. Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer: This book is also set in the same period as Pride and Prejudice, in the Regency era. Likewise, one of the main characters evokes in the reader feelings of hate and disgust, while at the same time, the reader don't want to dislike him. It tugs at your emotions from all corners. The story is also very interesting.
4. Eragon by Christopher Paolini: For all fantasy lovers, especially Harry Potter lovers, here's another books to feed your imagination. It's an exciting saga of a boy and his dragon and their journey together. A whole new world to discover!
5. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi: For anyone who feels a love for literature and an interest in the lives of people in other countries and cultures, this book is for you. It is a story of courage and shows how the stories from books can intertwine with our lives. I recommend it to everyone.
I feel the need to say that these are certainly not the 5 best books of all time. They are, however, 5 prodigious books that I recommend to all of you out there who want to read but have trouble finding something you will enjoy. Have fun getting lost in the different adventures and eras!
