How to reduce employee turnover

There are basic things to focus on to retain your employees and reduce turnover. A successful manager will become familiar with their employee goals. Find out what interest them and gets them motivated. When giving assignments to employees try to match their tasks closely to what interest them . Keeping employees engaged and challenged is a tool to reduce employee turnover.

If a manager hopes to manage turnover, the causes must be understood. Money and benefits are understandably an important aspect of making a decision to take a job in an organization. On the other hand, without an environment where people can feel cared about and valued, it will be difficult to retain the good employees

In order to retain key talent and reduce employee turnover, managers need to have a basic knowledge and understanding of what motivates employees to stay with an organization. Managers need to talk to their employees to find out what motivates the employees. It is important to know what the employees enjoy most about their jobs, and on the other hand what they enjoy least. Are they certain aspects of the job that they wish they had more opportunity to be involved with? Ask then to pick one thing over the last year that they enjoyed and felt good about in their performance of their job.

Most individuals want to do a good job. People feel proud when they do a good job and bad or even discouraged when they do not perform well. People like to be included in decisions about what is happening in their work environment. A manager will maximize motivation if they have maximized the amount of control individuals have at work.

It is crucial to understand that people do not want to be held accountable for situations that they believe are beyond their control. It is key to always show that their efforts and accomplishments are respected and appreciated.

Management should portray that they trust individuals to accomplish their work. If a manager portrays a feeling that their employees cannot make good decisions or handle a variety of situations, those individuals will tend to act less capable of doing their work. If there is a issue that needs to be fixed or addressed, a manager should not always try to fix it themselves. It can be very discouraging for an employee to have the manager fix something they have done incorrectly. A smart manager will help that employee learn from the mistakes and improve what needs to be worked on to address different situations.
