Some people just get freaked out when things get serious. Being in a committed relationship has it's ups and downs. These people who have this fear tend to concentrate on the downs. This article will discuss some of the things going on in the minds of people with fear of commitment.
Fear Of Pain
The closer you get to someone, the more it's going to hurt if the relationship doesn't work out. Some people still have the pain of a lost love and they don't want to get in too deep out of fear of feeling that pain again. You can't really blame them but sometimes, they end up hurting someone when they get into a relationship and that's not good.
Monogamy
Some people think they are ready for a relationship but aren't really ready to settle down. They still flirt, and some never stop looking. Some people don't want to take themselves off the market. There's nothing wrong with that but people like that have no business getting into a serious, committed relationship.
Fear of Marriage
People like Dr Laura have instilled in the minds of many women that if a man is dating you for more than a year and has not popped the question, that they never will. She's right in some cases but not all. Some guys want to wait until they get their education. But yes, some guys and girls never want to make things "legal" with a marriage. They don't want to be legally bound to this person for whatever reason.
Fear of Starting A Family
Now you don't need to be married to get pregnant or get a woman pregnant, but if that happens, you got yourself a FAMILY! Mom, Dad, and little Reinhold. You are tied to this man or woman for the REST OF YOUR LIFE even if you're not married. This can frankly scare the hell out of many people and they may not want to even set themselves up for such a catastrophe.
Mental Issues
Most men and women will not commit to a person who has mental issues. These issues can include the well known illnesses like depression, and anxiety as well as being possessive and bossy. I knew a man who had a girlfriend, they had a son together but this woman was super possessive and downright mean. He stuck it out for about 2 years because she was like a porn star in bed. Eventually, he left and got full custody of his son and to this day, he runs for the hills at the first sign of mental behavior.
In closing, many people have fear of commitment and some of them have very good reasons. That doesn't mean that they won't try to have a committed relationship though. That's where people get hurt and that's the most difficult part. Good luck out there.
