Staying positive in a negative world

you will begin to notice a difference in your attitude. If you put yourself first, you'll have more energy, patience, and positive motivation to give to your loved ones. Take an entire day, if necessary. Find a way to leave your family in good hands while you refresh and regenerate.

The last thing to consider when trying to maintain a positive attitude is what you allow yourself to be subjected to. If you listen to the news on television, or read about it in the newspaper, notice how much of that leaves you feeling unhappy or miserable. So you think you need to stay abreast of current events. Know that the media runs on ratings. They filter through the events that they know will keep up their ratings. If you want current events, read articles on internet news sites. You might find you get a better picture of what's really happening in our world today. It's best to avoid negative news altogether. What are you really gaining from knowing about a specific tragedy three towns away? News important to your personal life will find its way to you, and you can always choose to make donations or volunteer your time for a good cause. Simply reading or hearing about something terrible isn't changing your existence in a positive manner.

Avoid negative people as well. Naysayers and people who complain are generally not putting forth any effort to change things. People who are putting forth the effort don't have time to stand around and complain about it. They have already gotten up and started taking steps to remedy the things that don't work for them. This is not to suggest that you drop everything and go to Africa for a retreat, though that can be a life-changing experience that will bring about very positive changes to your life. Just don't complain, and don't listen to others who do. Things are the way they are until someone changes them.

Smile at random people. Make nice gestures, like holding the door for a teenager, or letting someone out in traffic. The nicer you are to people, the more you'll notice people showing kindness back to you. Just choose to ignore any moments of anger, resentment, guilt or dissatisfaction, while simultaneously working to grow and change your own attitude for the better.
