To analyse whether Iraq would be a better place if Saddam Hussein was still in power, we have to look back at the last five years of American invasion in Iraq as well as the history of Iraq while Saddam Hussein was in power. I have read several articles about Saddam Hussein that he was a dangerous and a cruel dictator. There is no doubt that Saddam had killed thousands of people during the time he was in power.
There are conflicting reports that Saddam Hussein has killed around 5000 to 200,000 Kurds during his time in power. To compare this number to the past five years of invasion of Iraq by the US, it has been estimated that at least over a million Iraqis are feared dead so far.
There are a millions of Iraqi homeless and thousands of children are left orphaned. People live in fear in Iraq. In the daylight, people are scared of suicides bombings and holy places are bombed constantly. Women are raped; dead bodies are lying outside the houses. (You can find all the videos on YouTube).
Until 2003 Iraq was a stable country that had its own military, reasonably good economy as well as established rule of law. It could defend itself against any power in the world. Not to mention Iraq has the world's fourth largest oil reserve.
Since the invasion of Iraq by Americans in 2003, we have witnessed that there are at least 30-50 people killed daily and most of them are civilians. To make a comparison between Saddam Hussein’s government and the US invasion in the past five years, we can immediately see a huge difference. There are more killings than ever before and Iraq is in civil war. Since the US invasion of Iraq there are at least 30 different terrorist groups, which are responsible for killings of innocent people.
As far as terrorism is concerned, Iraq is one of the most violent and dangerous places on earth. One of the most serious problems in Iraq is that there are several ethnic groups, which are fighting with each other as a direct result of the US invasion. If we look at the history of Iraq, Shia and Sunni have lived side by side throughout centuries.
While Saddam was in power the country was not in civil war and he had a control over the country. Since the invasion of America in 2003, Iraq has become not only dangerous place but also it is home to Al-Qaeda group.
